JPMorgan Chase - Defining Real-Time Transfers
Real-Time Transfers was one of my first major projects after joining Chase in 2018. The initiative aimed to introduce a groundbreaking payment feature, allowing customers to transfer funds instantly—the first new payment rail in 40 years. The project culminated in a general availability launch in summer 2019, making Chase the first to market with real-time transfers.
My Role
As the lead designer, I drove the design strategy from inception to launch, focusing on creating intuitive, user-centered features that simplified the payment experience. I made it easy for customers to choose between sending a real-time transfer or a standard one, establishing a clear definition for real-time payments that was later adopted across other Chase products. I advocated for multiple rounds of research to refine the experience and continuously enhanced the product based on customer feedback. In 2020, I expanded the initiative’s scope by designing for the introduction of the Request for Payment feature.
Status: Fully live since 2019, with the original design still in use today. RTP continues to be a success, with overwhelmingly positive customer feedback.
