Softcard - Redesigning the Offers Feature

Softcard, previously known as Isis Mobile Wallet, was a mobile payments system created in 2010 by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless, utilizing NFC technology to let users pay for purchases with their phones. The app also integrated features like rewards, transit passes, and exclusive promotions from participating retailers, eliminating the need for physical cards or cash. Despite its innovative concept, Softcard shut down in 2015 after Google acquired its technology and retired the brand.

My Role
One of my first projects at Softcard was redesigning the offers feature, which was underperforming due to a confusing “one-tap” interaction that combined payment and offer redemption. I proposed a two-tap solution—one tap to redeem the offer and another to pay—which was validated through research as the better option. To ensure clarity, I created detailed wireframes that not only defined the functionality but also served as a functional design spec for the development team. After launch, my redesign simplified the experience and led to a significant increase in offer views and redemptions.

Status: Softcard’s mobile payments system and offers feature were retired in 2015, but the redesign proved successful during its time, enhancing usability and driving customer engagement.
